October 22nd Meeting Summary

We had (I think!) a very productive meeting.

We decided to do the following during the large session Faculty Convocation Day Spring 11:
Present the details of the process used for Gen Ed Assessment Fall 10
Present the findings from the Fall 10 Assessment efforts
Roll out the Spring 11 Rubrics and Templates.
I will create a draft presentation for the chairs to react to.

We decided that the breakout sessions on Faculty Convocation Day should be at the department level and they should be spent creating related action plans based on the findings for the 3 assessed competencies Fall 10 and brainstorm assignment ideas for the 3 new rubrics for Spring 11(similar to what we did Fall 10).

I will hold a meeting of the Assessors during Convocation Week to get feedback/action plan thoughts from the Assessors on the Fall 10 process and rubrics.

We decided to give the faculty a preview of the Spring 11 Rubrics and Templates at department meetings November 2010.

We decided that I should partner with the IIC to develop on-line resources on infusing teamwork into on-line classes. "Tips for Teamwork in On-line Classes". We can also try to do a face-to-face session. Having this available the last week of November would be ideal to help faculty prepare syllabi for Spring 11.

We looked at the Gen Ed Competency coding on the Social Sciences Dept. e-syllabi and decided that it was a good model to adopt college-wide.

We decided that we would not need to meet face-to-face for the rest of this semester but would work on e-mail or the wiki.

October 1st Meeting Summary: We Have Lift Off!

At our October 1st meeting the process that was used to get the list of student assignments for the 90 students "close to graduation" was explained. Chairs suggested that they contact their respective faculty and work with them to get the student work attached to the templates from the faculty by November 1st. The chairs will send in assignments with templates as they get them to Pat (the collector of the stuff) throughout October. As of today, all the chairs have notified their faculty and some faculty have asked for clarification so our gen ed assessment effort appears to be on track!
A second accomplishment at our October 1st meeting was approval of the Fall 10assignment templates for our 3 competencies.
Finally the Critical Thinking, Empirical and Quantitative Reasoning, and Personal Responsibility workteams all polished drafts of the rubrics we will use for Spring 11assessment. Those rubric drafts will be presented at our next meeting (October 22nd) along with drafts of the Spring 11 templates.
We are getting it done!
